We're Hiring: Full-time Social Justice Program Manager!

Job Description

Level is looking for a motivated, energetic and hard-working individual to join our small, dynamic team to oversee the national delivery and expansion of social justice programs at Level. This is a remote/work from home position and open to candidates across Canada. The role includes:

  1. Launching a new justice education program for Black youth,

  2. Partial oversight of the Indigenous Youth Outreach Program (IYOP),

  3. Full oversight of the Blazing Trails Mentorship Program and Campus Chapter Program, and

  4. Fundraising and stakeholder engagement

Overview

  • Position: Social Justice Program Manager

  • Job Term: 12 Months, Full-Time Contract (with possibility of renewal)

  • Location: Remote/Work from home, anywhere in Canada

  • Salary: $55,000 - $60,000 commensurate with experience (negotiable)

  • Benefits: Extended health and dental benefits available after 3-month probation period

  • Reporting to: Executive Director

  • Anticipated Start Date: Immediate

  • Travel Requirements: Limited travel within Canada

Level is a Canadian charitable organization on a mission to level barriers to justice by disrupting prejudice, building empathy and advancing human rights. We pursue our mission through youth outreach, public legal education initiatives, social justice programming and events, and through specialized mentorship programs.

Since 2005, Level’s programming has motivated tomorrow’s lawyers, leaders and change-makers to champion social justice causes and make positive contributions to their communities. With social consciousness and youth engagement at the heart of these initiatives, students are encouraged to think critically and assess how their unique set of skills can be used to better the world around them.

 

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Social Justice Program Manager’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Launch New Justice Education Program for Black youth:

  • Conduct research, draft reports/environmental scan and participate in expert and community interviews for the development and launch of a new justice education program for Black youth

  • Engage in outreach initiatives to form partnerships with like-minded organizations, education sector professionals, youth centres, and Black youth

  • Develop training and policy materials to maintain integrity of the program and meet community needs

  • Identify and recommend strategies to implement program across Canada

2. Program Management/Development:

  • Oversee delivery and expansion of the Indigenous Youth Outreach Program, Blazing Trails Mentorship Program, and Campus Chapter Program

    • The Indigenous Youth Outreach Program is a justice education and mentorship program for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit youth, running in 20 locations across Canada

    • The Blazing Trails Mentorship Program is mentorship program that connects law students and new lawyers (student mentees) with legal professionals (legal mentors) who have developed unique and fulfilling careers in the justice sector

    • The Campus Chapter Program is a student-led club that brings awareness to Canadian social justice issues at 8 law schools across Canada

  • Conduct outreach, expansion, training, and program support and management for IYOP in 2-3 provinces

  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and networking opportunities to Campus Chapter executives participating in Level’s Campus Chapter Program

  • Provide support to legal mentors and student mentees participating in Level’s Blazing Trails Mentorship Program

  • Work collaboratively with Campus Chapter executives to ensure consistency in brand image at local Chapter level, transparency of fundraising and adherence to organizational policies and procedures

  • Attend and plan both Campus Chapter and Blazing Trails Mentorship Program events as budget permits

  • Draft and execute program evaluations

3. Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Senior Program Manager to create a strategic plan for online storytelling and marketing

  • Support social media strategy and promote Level’s mission and initiatives via Level’s website, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter platforms, through storytelling, photographs and video content

  • Ensure funders are appropriately recognized at all times and in accordance with sponsorship agreements

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Level’s staff, Board of Directors, Indigenous Advisory Board, volunteers, legal community, school boards, educators, youth, Elders, community partners, and other stakeholders

  • Assist Executive Director in communicating with funders as outlined in funding agreements, including drafting reports

  • Attend networking and other events to promote Level’s brand

  • Generally, act as an ambassador of Level’s mission, vision, values and goals

  • Assist with creating and managing online ads through Google AdWords, Instagram, and Facebook

  • Draft quarterly newsletter and other emails for online network

4. Fundraising and Event Planning:

  • Together with the Executive Director and Senior Program Manager, organize and execute a fundraising event twice a year

  • Oversee all Campus Chapter fundraising events

  • Under the direction of the Executive Director, draft funding/grant applications to support Level’s programs and operations, as well as reports to funders

  • Create and oversee social media campaigns aimed at garnering support and donations for Level’s programming

5. Student/Volunteer Management:

  • In consultation with the Executive Director and Senior Program Manager, recruit, interview and select well-qualified students, legal professionals, and/or volunteers for program facilitation, research or other positions

  • Assist the Executive Director in training and mentoring students, legal professionals, and/or volunteers

  • Ensure that student/volunteer reporting procedures are followed and records of hours are maintained

  • Initiate student/volunteer appreciation events/opportunities

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in law related studies, social justice, education, or other related sector

  • Experience working with non-profit organization/social enterprise

  • Experience with justice education program development and delivery

  • Knowledge and experience with staff/volunteer management

  • Experience with fundraising, including building donor relationships and drafting grant proposals

  • Strong and creative research and writing skills

  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Experience engaging with community through social media

  • Collaborative, friendly attitude

  • Ability to work independently and under own direction

  • Experience working with youth, Black and Indigenous communities, and/or marginalized communities

  • Interest in social justice
