Connecting law students with the skills to succeed
In 2017, Level designed and launched the Blazing Trails Mentorship Program, a unique mentorship program aimed at helping law students connect and engage with daring lawyers who have blazed trails and defined their own metrics of success. Our goal is simple - instilling confidence in young leaders so that they can take control of their career narratives. Blazing Trails is helping emerging legal professionals change the way they build a successful career in law.
Meet Our Mentors
Since its inception in 2017, we are excited to have provided mentorship opportunities to approximately 70 students representing 15 law schools across the country. None of this would be possible without our participating mentors who generously offer their time and wisdom to help guide the next generation of aspiring legal professionals.
Meet just a few of our past and current legal mentors who are a constant living reminder that superpowers really do exist!
Get Involved!
Interested law students from across Canada may apply to the program by following the two-step process below. The deadline to apply is Friday, November 20, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. PST.
1. Fill out an application.
2. Submit a copy of your CV.
Level staff will review all applications, and will work to connect selected students with experienced mentors based on their interests and shared experiences.
Groups are limited to up to four mentees per mentor in order to maximize the amount of contact with the mentor, and ensure each meeting adheres to the principle of quality over quantity.
Past mentors have included legal professionals with experience working in private practice, registered charities government and non-governmental organizations, drawing on experience in environmental, immigration, family, Aboriginal, criminal and constitutional law, women's rights advocacy, class action and privacy litigation.
Meetings occur four times throughout the course of the academic year for one hour each, and can be held over online video chat platforms, or in person at the discretion of the mentor. All participants are provided with a Level Program Toolkit to guide the course of these discussions, and ensure students get the most out of the time they invest in the program. The material in the toolkit facilitates candid discussions on a variety of topics such as management and leadership skills, cultural sensitivity, career do's and don'ts, CV reviews, volunteering, and finding balance.
Are you an experienced legal professional interested in giving back? We want you to hear from you! Contact [email protected] for more information on how you can get involved.
