Shelan Markus Recognized as a Lexpert Rising Star

We're thrilled to announce that Level’s Executive Director, Shelan Markus, has been named as a Lexpert Rising Star! This prestigious recognition celebrates leading lawyers under 40 who are shaping the future of justice in Canada. We're proud to have such visionary leadership as we work to advance access to justice for all.

On November 19th, 2024, more than 465 attendees came together to celebrate the award recipients at Toronto’s Liberty Grand. Lexpert magazine presented the award, along with Law Times and Canadian Lawyer. The list of winners included Canadian lawyers who have made outstanding contributions to the legal profession.

For Shelan, being named a Rising Star affirmed the importance of the charity’s mission. “To win this award is just to know that the legal community really cares about these issues,” she says.  “As a charitable organization, we're always looking for ways to gain that type of credibility, and so winning this award means that we'll be recognized in front of other law firms whom we could potentially partner with,” Markus says. She adds, “Hopefully, that means growth for our organization and just general growth for access to justice in this country.”
