Shelan (she/her) is the Executive Director of Level, a leading national justice education and human rights charity.

Shelan joined Level in 2019, where she has been focused on developing justice education and human rights programs for Indigenous and Black youth, young environmental activists, law students, and the legal sector, with a goal to remove barriers to justice and create a more equitable society. She is passionate about social justice, empathy, and education as tools to foster more responsive and inclusive justice systems.


Shelan has a Juris Doctor from Western University and a BA (Distinction) from McGill University. She studied international human rights law abroad in India. Shelan articled and practiced law at a boutique litigation firm in Toronto and worked as a lawyer and contracts officer for the University of British Columbia.

Shelan is a second generation Canadian/settler of mixed Israeli, Iranian, and Eastern European heritage. In her spare time, Shelan is the founder and photographer of a philanthropic print business, CityandShe.com, which supports human rights, animal rights, and environmental initiatives worldwide.
