Meet Level's New Indigenous Youth & Environment Program Manager, Desneige Frandsen!

Dear Friends of Level,

We are excited to announce the appointment of our new Indigenous Youth & Environment Program Manager, Desneige Frandsen, effective February 13, 2023.

Desneige is a Métis person who has always been passionate about her community and working with youth; she has coached gymnastics, taught preschool and more. In 2020 when she started her law school journey at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law in Toronto, she also began working as an Indigenous Youth Outreach Program Facilitator for Level, running programs in Midland, Quatsino First Nation and other locations as part of Level's partnership with Connected North.

Recently, Desneige worked as a Research Assistant to Professor Scott Franks on a project aimed at Indiginizing Legal Education. Through this, she worked with Lincoln Alexander School of Law professors to integrate more Indigenous legal orders, issues and perspectives into their course offerings. Desneige continues to be active in her home community by volunteering with the Miikanaake Court Diversion Program run by Enaahtig Healing Lodge.

Desneige holds a BA Hons in Criminal Justice and Public Policy from the University of Guelph and will graduate from the Lincoln Alexander School of Law at Toronto Metropolitan University with a Juris Doctor (JD) degree in April 2023.

Outside of work and school, Desneige enjoys spending time with her fiancé and their dog Oliver. She is also interested in travelling and experiencing different foods and cultures from around the world.

We are confident that Desneige's passion and expertise in Indigenous rights and social justice will create impactful and responsive programming that fosters reconciliation in the legal profession, environmental justice, and a diverse justice sector. We look forward to her leadership.

Level's team, Board and I will continue to support Desneige during her orientation to Level and welcome you to reach out if you have any questions.

Please also feel free to join us in welcoming Desneige to our team - desneige@leveljustice.org.

Sincerely,

Shelan Markus
