Canadian Lawyers Abroad's "Rights of Spring" - The Lowdown

Over 200 people joined us, and we had a great mix ranging from senior members of the legal and business community to law students, media, academics, and members of NGO community.

The Hon. Henry N.R. Jackman provided a great (and also very funny)  introduction to Ontario Securities Commission Chair Howard Wetston, Q.C. who spoke very eloquently about the importance of building the rule of law and how critical it is for students to get involved.

Ebenezer Bediako, visiting from the KNUST Faculty of Law in Ghana as part of our Ghana Legal Clinic Project, and Brittany Twiss, a former CLA intern and Director of our Student Program, did a great job explaining why the work of Canadian Lawyers Abroad makes a tangible difference in improving lives.

After the speeches everyone milled around, taking advantage of the amazing Globalive patio, which boasts a spectacular view of the CN Tower. We really couldn't have asked for a better night!  Luckily there were lots of beverages for everyone, courtesy of Steam Whistle Brewing and Legends Estate Winery.  The food and service provided by Oliver & Bonacini was amazing!

My only regret was that I didn't have a chance to speak with more people.  However, it seemed like everyone was engaged in interesting conversations and having a good time!  Hope to see all of you at "Rights of Spring" Part II next June!A big thanks to all of our event sponsors including our gold sponsors, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP and Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP, and silver sponsors, FTI Consulting, Wildeboer Dellelce LLP, Macleod Dixon LLP and The Flat Armadillo Society.  Also a big thanks to our other sponsors including Chitiz Pathak , ZSA Legal Recruitment and Precedent: The new rules of law and style, Oliver & Bonacini, Steam Whistle Brewing and Legends Estates Winery. Finally, a big thank you to the SHAMBA foundation for helping out with every aspect of the event for providing the awesome space (thanks Inga!).A few more pictures below (and you can see a whole lot more here).  You can also see pictures in the Globe and Mail's "Party pictures of the week" here (in same roll as Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis - cool!) and in The Precedent Blog
