NADA IBRAHIM
Program Facilitator & Coordinator
Indigenous Youth Outreach Program
Nada graduated from the University of Toronto, having done a double major in Criminology and Political Science, receiving an Honours Bachelor of Arts in November 2021. Most recently, Nada completed a Master’s degree in Gender and Social Justice at McMaster University, having graduated in November 2022. While completing her major research paper at McMaster, Nada started working at an Indigenous emergency shelter serving men experiencing homelessness in Toronto. Though this Nada learned more about the complexity of the criminal legal system; hearing clients’ experiences reignited her passion for criminal legal reform and research, particularly affecting marginalized communities.
Nada started working at Native Men’s Residence while also writing her master’s thesis, where she chose to write about the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous women, girls, and gender diverse people. For this thesis Nada was guided by Cree academic, Dr. Savage Bear.
Nada’s parents immigrated to Canada to escape the effects of colonialism abroad, not knowing that the same colonial powers occupied space on this land as well. As a settler being immersed within Indigenous cultures and practices from her research as well as her work experience, Nada has found that accessible education and knowledge sharing is a key part of her personal journey of reconciliation. Through working with Level Nada hopes to further her learning journey related to Indigenous cultures as well as ignite a passion in youth to pursue justice related careers.
