About
Level's online school is a unique resource that can be used by teachers who need support in their classroom or individual students who might be interested in learning more about the law as well as empathy. This unique digital curriculum can also be paired with in-school programming and mentorship for students.
Since 2012, we have delivered our Indigenous Youth Outreach Program to over 1200 First Nations, Métis and Inuit youth. To make our programming more accessible and enable us to expand to more remote locations and reach more youth, we have taken our programming online. Level’s online school will host a series of courses for students designed to improve access to justice for young people in Canada.
In 2017, Level began facilitating empathy training sessions with justice sector professionals, using specialized training obtained through our friends at 21 Toys. Building empathy allows justice sector responders to better understand the root causes and impacts of barriers to justice, improves communication and provides the tools to approach legal issues from the client’s perspective.

Courses
IYOP Online
Level’s Indigenous Youth Outreach Program (“IYOP”) Online is an innovative justice education course for First Nations, Métis and Inuit youth aged 11 – 14 that achieves the following:
- Builds critical thinking skills of youth
- Engages First Nations, Métis and Inuit youth in justice education building their knowledge and understanding of the law
- Celebrates Indigenous legal practices and traditions
IYOP online is specifically designed to benefit First Nation, Métis and Inuit youth in a manner that is culturally-anchored, while increasing their knowledge of the justice system and empowering them to believe in their capacity to succeed. It also provides an opportunity for non-Indigenous students to improve their Indigenous cultural competency, which fosters positive relationship building and intercultural exchanges. This works to advance reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in Canada.
IYOP Online takes between 60-90 minutes to complete and includes text, videos and quizzes to test students’ knowledge. Lectures are an excellent way for students to learn more about the law in an interactive and engaging way.
Lecture topics include:
- The Justice System and Indigenous People
- Canadian Criminal Justice System
- Youth Criminal Justice Act
- Restorative Justice
